DraftKings’ Electric Poker game — in which three players compete again one another, with a frenetic blind structure and with prize amounts determined by luck of the draw — arrived in Pennsylvania Tuesday after debuting over the summer in Michigan.
The play is based on standard no-limit Texas hold ‘em rules, but the game — which bears similarities to PokerStars “Spin & Gos” and WSOP’s “Blast Poker” — features a prize pool based on a random multiplier, two-minute blind levels, and an “electric” mode that forces everyone all-in.
“Electric Poker is one of many innovative games on DraftKings Casino, which houses exclusive products that players can’t get anywhere else,” Jason March, vice president of iGaming marketing and operations at DraftKings, said in a release. “After positive feedback from our players in Michigan, we are thrilled to expand our Electric Poker offerings to our customers in Pennsylvania, delivering them a best-in-class online poker experience.”
Players are matched against other customers at buy-in levels that range from $1 to $25, and prize multipliers can grow to as much as 10,000x.
Big prize potential
The prize pool is determined randomly, and Casino Reports previously noted that based on a chart provided on the Electric Poker information page in Michigan, the multiplier chances are as follows: 2x the buy-in 47.78% of the time, 3x the buy-in just under 36% of the time, 4x the buy-in about 11% of the time, 5x at 4.6% of the time, 10x at 0.5% of the time, and, extremely rarely, 100x, 1000x, or 10,000x.
For instance, at the $25 price point, there’s a one-in-a-million chance of a $250,000 prize pool.
Over time, DraftKings’ rake averages 7%.
Prize distribution varies depending on the multiplier. For 4x and below, the winner takes all. At 5x and 10x, first and second place share the prize. When the multiplier reaches 100x, 1000x, and 10,000x, all players receive a portion of the winnings.
If a game runs long, it enters “Electric Mode,” similar to WSOP.com’s Blast games. In this mode, all remaining players are automatically all-in pre-flop until one player claims all the chips.
The onset of Electric Mode depends on the multiplier. For 2x-5x games, it begins after six minutes (three levels). In 10x games, it starts after eight minutes (four levels). For 100x games, Electric Mode kicks in after 10 minutes (five levels). In the rare 1000x or 10,000x games, players have 12 minutes (six levels) before Electric Mode begins.
Launched in 2018, DraftKings Casino is currently available in Connecticut, New Jersey, and West Virginia, as well as the Canadian province of Ontario in addition to Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Other regulated online poker sites available in Pennsylvania include PokerStars, WSOP Online, BetMGM Poker, and Borgata Poker.
